just the right Christmas song for me now..

The right new Christmas song for me (Alessia Cara - Make It To Christmas). Being away from my adopted family and friends (and some other things) always makes this a VERY tough time of year for me, and I always tell myself that I just need to make it to Christmas - and lo and behold this year I find a song that says just that...

It is weird how it's be over 2 years since I first ran across Billie's music, and now it's like she is everywhere? That's cool..and yet..kind of ethereal.

TBI in musical form.... ? ?

This is one of my favorite Beatles tunes, "All Too Much" (a good remake by Paul Gilbert can be viewed here.), and to me it really is a good example to me of what a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) is like for someone who has no insight into what a TBI "feels" like (or better, how it can feel).
That is to say - the various layering of this song and the weaving of the sounds is how it does "feel" like with a TBI. Particularly how there's one part where the mix gets(to me) sort of muddied, and how if you just get into the song, it has several parts that have a kind of sensation of having your head in a fish bowl/underwater vibe.
Now I am not saying that having a TBI is a wonderful musical like experience, it is rarely such. But rather that with some moments of having a TBI (at least in my experiences)it is the sensation of being on an internal remix of how things are processed, and that it can feel like someone other than yourself is at the "mixing board" of your cognition. It's like someone is adjusting the equalizer of your brain. Sorry if that sounds either "trippy", or if it makes the experience sound like others might enjoy it - as I doubt that is even remotely true at all.

Tell Me Why - The Beatles

Just trying to battle another case of "writer's block", and a good Beatles song might do the trick....

one of a kind, just not your kind, which can be unkind?

I've mentioned in some of my posts about how much I enjoy music, and how my musical tastes cover such a huge spectrum of varieties.
And sometimes that includes songs that are just plain sappy and/or kitschy.
Here's a great example of such - from 2006, "Nothing in this world" from Paris Hilton.
Go ahead, roll your eyes. But it is a happy go lucky pop tune. To me it is catchy and just has a (to me) infectious groove to it. Sometimes (again in my opinion) a good song can just be a bubble gum sweet bouncy song. Sure you could gloss over this song and say it is vapid and not "deep" or "meaningful", but sometimes life's guilty pleasures are just simple and enjoyable.
But for the record - I've never followed fads, trends or tried to be "something" I'm not. I've always been the person I wanted to be, and though that might not be an opinion shared by many, who really cares?

a "great" day

The way we use language is entertaining to me. Like when people use sarcasm....here's a funny memory of mine.
I meet up with a friend, who say, "Man I'm having a great day".
I say, "What do you mean?"
Friend replies, "This morning my car had to get jump started, then on the way here, I get a speeding ticket".
To which I say, "See? That's the difference between you and I, you have such a positive attitude. If it were me and my car had to get jump started AND I got a speeding ticket, that'd be a bad day"

have a good life...

bend, but do not break,
leave more than you take,
make every word count and be true,
don't fear saying I love you,
live not to be in the spotlight,
embrace forgiveness and what is right,
respect those who have come before,
have what you need and not more,
value more than the dollar sign,
then you will see, and not be blind.

These are but my simple words that I impart so they may help even but one person....

trying to remember to forget....

Here's a beautiful and touching song called, "Don't Forget" by Pat Metheny.
It sort of dovetails with a saying I have had for many years since I was in a life changing accident. I came up with the saying, "I am trying to remember to forget"...as the challenges and changes I face since my accident make me wish I could remember to forget so much that 'was' my life and who I was before my accident.

waking stream of consciousness...

I am a simple person - both of means and of mind,
That's why my resources, like my friends are few,
but when I go to bed each night I know I am rich,
not with a fine home, or brand new clothes,
nor places to travel to and enjoy, but with peace.
What I have is old and tattered, my humor corny,
but my view of the world is not from above or below anyone else,
I am no greater or lesser than anyone,
being humble may not be a write off on my taxes,
but charity to me is it's own reward,
I only claim goodness of giving within my heart.
I'm not here for myself - but for others.
I am here to learn, so that I may teach.
I am selfless, not selfish,
That which I have not earned, I will not take.
I can accept that others may have more than I do,
I cannot accept that if I can help someone, that I do nothing.
When someone is weak and condescending to me,
I will have pity on their foolish liability of judging (others).

Keep your mouth closed.

poetry in motion?

I'm not so much 'poetry in motion' - I'm more "prose that falls and keeps getting back up" #nevergiveup #youcandoit #prose #fridaymotivation
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - even if it is a painful first step...
These were the very first steps I took in trying to run for the first time after a VERY serious and life altering accident. I fell, but I kept getting back up:)

Edison

"Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration", said the prolific inventor Thomas Edison who never got a patent for deodorant? #inspiration #ThomasEdison

a chrous that inspires

Music is a very integral part of my life. I listen to so many gendres of music, and this song nails it for me.
The chorus is like it was lifted from my life after my accident, "Had fingers in my eyes, had needles in my veins, a knife right through my heart, I am a victory"...no matter what anyone views me as being - to me, I am a victory!

After my accident, I DID have fingers in my eyes, needles in my veins, and did feel like a knife had run through my heart.
So although the lyrics of the song were not written specifically to my experiences, it (to me) does speak of my challenges, and to how far I have come, and that I am a victory.

It's you...

In this post is a VERY OLD song, called "Love the one you're with", which is kind of a nice thought. BUT, taken a step further - really speaks to something very deep (at least in my opinion), which is that in this often vapid, materialistic, and VERY superficial world, you first have to love yourself - no matter how others may view you.
Be the best you that you can be. Self-love (to me), is the necessary component to being able to love others.
I don't mean being vain, but accepting you for you.

the simple pleasures in life

I am a simple person - both in means and in mind. And although this post won't be an epic one - I just wanted to share what I am doing, now.
I am enjoying the simple pleasure of watching one of my favorite actors - Winona Ryder, in the 2002 movie, "Mr. Deeds" (it's a remake of the 1936 Frank Capra comedy, "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town").
The film does star Adam Sandler - who I am not the greatest fan of - BUT, Winona steals the movie in playing Babe Bennett (a TV reporter), who disguises herself as Pam Dawson (a school nurse).
The film is reasonably close in how it seeks to emulate the original 1936 movie.
Ms. Ryder is to me, both a talented and versatile performer. She plays this role perfectly, and her comedic talents shine in this movie.
