motto..rant?

I am NOT a hugely - what you would call "religious" person.
I was almost shocked to read a passage from the Bible that is pretty much my motto in/with my life :
"Refuse to let the world corrupt you"
James 1:27

It really is a bit of wisdom that is more appropriate (in my opinion) NOW than at any other time. I mean, come on, there is so-called "social" media where people spend every day bashing, insulting and rehashing hate. To me - a "social" setting is a place to gather and talk and exchange things with people you want to and choose to be around. I personally don't want to spend my time "socializing" with people bemoaning how bad, stupid or whatever others are for not agreeing with their ideologies. Back in the day, I spent some times in bars, and it wasn't to be berated, chastised or (should I say it?) bullied by other bar patrons? NO!
You see - back then the loudmouths who acted rudely would be tossed out of the establishment. Sadly you can't toss out morons who believe their freedom of speech is a bulletproof excuse to attack others.
First off - is there a universal law to guarantee this freedom of speech online? NO!
Second - it is the discretion of the site or outlet that provides a "forum" for people to say whatever - SO, it is the sites/apps, etc who are allowing selective rude behavior(s). But anyone with a level of intelligence should see the "filtering" of opinions, and thereby shaping opinions is being done by the owners/operators of the websites, apps, and other means.
Maybe it's back to the old, "You can't scream FIRE in a crowded theater" applies...or does it? WHO determines what is acceptable, and conversely what isn't "acceptable" and/or offensive????
Bottom line.....it's all a matter of money talks and b.s. walks...It's pathetic that technology has the vast potentials to do so much good, and instead is about pushing agendas and generating $$ (which is another way of saying power and control)
