have a good life...

bend, but do not break,
leave more than you take,
make every word count and be true,
don't fear saying I love you,
live not to be in the spotlight,
embrace forgiveness and what is right,
respect those who have come before,
have what you need and not more,
value more than the dollar sign,
then you will see, and not be blind.

These are but my simple words that I impart so they may help even but one person....

my daily question

I've learned that living with a traumatic brain injury, every day I ask myself, "Life is a challenge, do you accept it"?

trying to remember to forget....

Here's a beautiful and touching song called, "Don't Forget" by Pat Metheny.
It sort of dovetails with a saying I have had for many years since I was in a life changing accident. I came up with the saying, "I am trying to remember to forget"...as the challenges and changes I face since my accident make me wish I could remember to forget so much that 'was' my life and who I was before my accident.

a silent role

"All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players".
I wasn't given a speaking role :)

waking stream of consciousness...

I am a simple person - both of means and of mind,
That's why my resources, like my friends are few,
but when I go to bed each night I know I am rich,
not with a fine home, or brand new clothes,
nor places to travel to and enjoy, but with peace.
What I have is old and tattered, my humor corny,
but my view of the world is not from above or below anyone else,
I am no greater or lesser than anyone,
being humble may not be a write off on my taxes,
but charity to me is it's own reward,
I only claim goodness of giving within my heart.
I'm not here for myself - but for others.
I am here to learn, so that I may teach.
I am selfless, not selfish,
That which I have not earned, I will not take.
I can accept that others may have more than I do,
I cannot accept that if I can help someone, that I do nothing.
When someone is weak and condescending to me,
I will have pity on their foolish liability of judging (others).

"touching" moments

For a costume party my ex went as a clown, I didn't wear a costume. When we got home I felt funny and she felt stupid. #goofy #mesocorny

no rest for the weary

Some people follow their dreams, some are just sleep walking thru life. Me? I'm an insomniac. Not a joke or pun, just where I am at in my life.

looks can be deceiving

Not everyone who has a big house worked hard, and not everyone who worked hard has a big house.

poetry in motion?

I'm not so much 'poetry in motion' - I'm more "prose that falls and keeps getting back up" #nevergiveup #youcandoit #prose #fridaymotivation
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - even if it is a painful first step...
These were the very first steps I took in trying to run for the first time after a VERY serious and life altering accident. I fell, but I kept getting back up:)

a chrous that inspires

Music is a very integral part of my life. I listen to so many gendres of music, and this song nails it for me.
The chorus is like it was lifted from my life after my accident, "Had fingers in my eyes, had needles in my veins, a knife right through my heart, I am a victory"...no matter what anyone views me as being - to me, I am a victory!

After my accident, I DID have fingers in my eyes, needles in my veins, and did feel like a knife had run through my heart.
So although the lyrics of the song were not written specifically to my experiences, it (to me) does speak of my challenges, and to how far I have come, and that I am a victory.

all I want to do

22 years ago today I was in an accident that altered my life and who I am. For reasons too lengthy to go into at this point, New Jersey will always be my "home", although I am no longer there - I long to be "home", and this song both is sad to me, and yet - what keeps me going, with the hope that somehow, some way I can go "home".
