a "great" day

The way we use language is entertaining to me. Like when people use sarcasm....here's a funny memory of mine.
I meet up with a friend, who say, "Man I'm having a great day".
I say, "What do you mean?"
Friend replies, "This morning my car had to get jump started, then on the way here, I get a speeding ticket".
To which I say, "See? That's the difference between you and I, you have such a positive attitude. If it were me and my car had to get jump started AND I got a speeding ticket, that'd be a bad day"

my daily question

I've learned that living with a traumatic brain injury, every day I ask myself, "Life is a challenge, do you accept it"?

"touching" moments

For a costume party my ex went as a clown, I didn't wear a costume. When we got home I felt funny and she felt stupid. #goofy #mesocorny

give the people what they want

I used to do voice impressions of people at work to break up the monotony.
A female co-worker once said to me, "Wow, you are good at imitating people, can you do me?"

poetry in motion?

I'm not so much 'poetry in motion' - I'm more "prose that falls and keeps getting back up" #nevergiveup #youcandoit #prose #fridaymotivation
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - even if it is a painful first step...
These were the very first steps I took in trying to run for the first time after a VERY serious and life altering accident. I fell, but I kept getting back up:)

a chrous that inspires

Music is a very integral part of my life. I listen to so many gendres of music, and this song nails it for me.
The chorus is like it was lifted from my life after my accident, "Had fingers in my eyes, had needles in my veins, a knife right through my heart, I am a victory"...no matter what anyone views me as being - to me, I am a victory!

After my accident, I DID have fingers in my eyes, needles in my veins, and did feel like a knife had run through my heart.
So although the lyrics of the song were not written specifically to my experiences, it (to me) does speak of my challenges, and to how far I have come, and that I am a victory.

that's love

what is love?
My Father REALLY liked limburger cheese, my Mom could not stand limburger cheese (especially the smell)....to me, THAT is love. #love

a touching moment?

A girlfriend once told me I made her feel stupid. I told her it was up to her if she touched me or not. #relationships

Thought I'd take a trip "down memory lane", but I got a "GPS signal not found" in my mind. #itwillgetbetter

Home Speech - Garden State

This scene from the movie "Garden State" is so touching to me. Especially the line, "it's like you feel #homesick for a place that doesn't even exist"....

That is how I feel, not because the people that made it "home" are gone, but who I was - is (gone).

I'm not being shellfish

When you are young, the metaphor is that the world is an (one's) oyster. And it still is for me - but now - it is just a shell.
Don't mean to be shellfish...I mean selfish...just conveying where things are in my life.

weathering the storm?

Well it looks like it will be a snowy weekend where I am at. But I still don't get the hype invested in "stormy" weather. The fact that pretty much any weather event is labelled, still baffles me. It's like people are looking to have the general public in a constant state of alert about everything. For example, the "storm" that is forecast to bring snow this weekend is called Harper. Now it does sound like where I am at will get a good bit of snow - and of course I realize that a system can track further in one direction or another and thereby reduce or increase how much snow actually accumulates, but the hyper state of arousal is amplified as the forecast is running anywhere from 1 - 3" of snow, to 4 - 8" of snow,to 6 - 12" of snow, and even 12" of snow.....
Times do change, when I was a child, 1 - 2" of snow wasn't considered a MAJOR event..now it IS?
School rarely was cancelled or delayed unless the roads were very treacherous

Bon Jovi - 99 In The Shade

It's funny that back in the mid 80s, I referred to Bon Jovi as "Bon Jersey"...

Afterall a mere few years later, New Jersey would become "home" to me. In fact, New Jersey will always be my "home". It's hard to live somewhere that isn't home - especially when it's the area I grew up in.

But as far as the song itself, it starts with a hint of late 50s early 60s harmonies, and builds into a full blown rockin' 80s party song.

Sorry, but any song with a chorus that includes the lyrics, "I got a party in my pocket you know I just got paid and I'm feelin' fine it's 99 in the shade..." HAS to be a good party or traveling tune in my book.

how was I born?

My Mom used to tell one of the best stories about my Dad.
When they were dating, my Dad told my Mom, "I don't know if you were thinking about marriage, as I come from a family of bachelors"......

Small Faces - Itchycoo Park (1967)

something a little "trippy" for an early sunday morning....
I first heard this song as a child via a teenage neighbor girl.I do believe she was my first crush. She'd let me sing along with her transistor radio.

music that can heal...

This song by The Outfield (best known for their single "Your Love"), was yet another example of how music has been a vital part of my life. I know it's an oft used cliche, but so much music truly has been the soundtrack of/to my life.

This song though not a huge hit, really impacted my life. I was just in the middle of coming to terms with a crushing "breakup", and really wore this song out on my car's cassette player making the often long drive to and from work (sometimes traffic made it a 90 minute drive each way).

Unrequited love is like a broken boomerang.
I've had a few women break my boomerang in my life :-)

the good and the bad of relationships

I was once engaged to a woman who said she loved me more than life itself.
She was also suicidal.....
