The right new Christmas song for me (Alessia Cara - Make It To Christmas). Being away from my adopted family and friends (and some other things) always makes this a VERY tough time of year for me, and I always tell myself that I just need to make it to Christmas - and lo and behold this year I find a song that says just that...

Billie Eilish - idontwannabeyouanymore

It is weird how it's be over 2 years since I first ran across Billie's music, and now it's like she is everywhere? That's cool..and yet..kind of ethereal.

one of a kind, just not your kind, which can be unkind?

I've mentioned in some of my posts about how much I enjoy music, and how my musical tastes cover such a huge spectrum of varieties.
And sometimes that includes songs that are just plain sappy and/or kitschy.
Here's a great example of such - from 2006, "Nothing in this world" from Paris Hilton.
Go ahead, roll your eyes. But it is a happy go lucky pop tune. To me it is catchy and just has a (to me) infectious groove to it. Sometimes (again in my opinion) a good song can just be a bubble gum sweet bouncy song. Sure you could gloss over this song and say it is vapid and not "deep" or "meaningful", but sometimes life's guilty pleasures are just simple and enjoyable.
But for the record - I've never followed fads, trends or tried to be "something" I'm not. I've always been the person I wanted to be, and though that might not be an opinion shared by many, who really cares?

In this post is a VERY OLD song, called "Love the one you're with", which is kind of a nice thought. BUT, taken a step further - really speaks to something very deep (at least in my opinion), which is that in this often vapid, materialistic, and VERY superficial world, you first have to love yourself - no matter how others may view you.
Be the best you that you can be. Self-love (to me), is the necessary component to being able to love others.
I don't mean being vain, but accepting you for you.

Music to recharge and focus

First for those unfamiliar, Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones are half-sisters. They are both daughters of Ravi Shankar. To me, this song is both soothing and invigvorating.

Van Halen Up For Breakfast

Although this isn't an extremely well known Van Halen song - and it would NEVER be "permitted" nowadays due to the inflammatory double entendres...it IS a favorite of mine. The music is awesome, and the lyrics are so silly that they are hilarious....

lyrical wisdom

There was a band from Boston named "Damone" (they were together from 2001 - 2008). A band that (in my humble opinion)should have been a huge success,but the music they played wasn't "right" for the time they played.
They have many songs that are brilliant both lyrically,as well as musically. One song is called, "When you live", that contains such a genius chorus :

Bon Jovi - 99 In The Shade

It's funny that back in the mid 80s, I referred to Bon Jovi as "Bon Jersey"...

Afterall a mere few years later, New Jersey would become "home" to me. In fact, New Jersey will always be my "home". It's hard to live somewhere that isn't home - especially when it's the area I grew up in.

But as far as the song itself, it starts with a hint of late 50s early 60s harmonies, and builds into a full blown rockin' 80s party song.

Sorry, but any song with a chorus that includes the lyrics, "I got a party in my pocket you know I just got paid and I'm feelin' fine it's 99 in the shade..." HAS to be a good party or traveling tune in my book.

I first heard this song as a child via a teenage neighbor girl.I do believe she was my first crush. She'd let me sing along with her transistor radio.

music that can heal...

This song by The Outfield (best known for their single "Your Love"), was yet another example of how music has been a vital part of my life. I know it's an oft used cliche, but so much music truly has been the soundtrack of/to my life.

This song though not a huge hit, really impacted my life. I was just in the middle of coming to terms with a crushing "breakup", and really wore this song out on my car's cassette player making the often long drive to and from work (sometimes traffic made it a 90 minute drive each way).

I read in some places that the 80s are referred to as a time of "excess".
Really? Look around - NOW is all about excess, and then some.

all I want to do

22 years ago today I was in an accident that altered my life and who I am. For reasons too lengthy to go into at this point, New Jersey will always be my "home", although I am no longer there - I long to be "home", and this song both is sad to me, and yet - what keeps me going, with the hope that somehow, some way I can go "home".

worldwide influences

First, I am a fan of so many types of music, and like to post some here on my blog.
Second - I am not sharing this video to demonstrate the "eye candy" of the videos contents, but rather to point out the (in my opinion) interesting elements in the video. The clothing worn is obviously a sign of the worldwide American cultural influence. It amazes me that you willmoften see American sports "gear" worn by performers around the world, but it's a rarity to see an American artist wearing say a Man U jersey, and soccer is considered the biggest sport in the world.
